Features
Cold rolling is a process of applying pressure to steel at room temperature to shape it. Hot rolled steel, like galvanized and color steel plates, are run through the cold rolling method so they possess great plasticity and elongation. This process also gives the material a smooth finish that can't be achieved with hot rolling, making it perfect for applications in the automobile, household appliances, hardware and other industries. Before being cold-rolled, hot rolled coils must have their scales removed by pickling. Cold rolling produces a harder and stronger coil than that of hot rolled steel which usually has a thickness between 1.0mm to 0.1mm. The difference between these two methods of processing lies in their temperatures; while hot rolling runs above crystallization temperature point, cold rolling runs below it. In addition to changes in shape, this procedure creates a work hardening on the cold rolled coil increasing its strength and hardness while decreasing its toughness and plasticity index.
